Alternatives to Restraint Use
In the early stages of recovery following a brain injury, it is not uncommon for some of these individuals to be 'agitated' while in hospital. Signs of agitation can include restlessness, pulling at tubes or dressings or trying to get out of bed. Acute care hospitals sometimes use restraints and observers to reduce falls and injuries among ABI patients, when they are in this state.
