Guidelines for Diagnosing and Managing Pediatric Concussion
The Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation has just released the first comprehensive guidelines designed to manage concussion in children and adolescents, aged 5 to 18 years old.
The guidelines were developed by a multi-disciplinary panel of experts:
- to provide the best care to children/adolescents who have sustained a concussion
- based on a systematic review of the evidence
- to standardize care throughout Canada
- aimed at reducing the burden of concussion and the debilitating impact of persistent symptoms on children, adolescents and their families
The guidelines are written in user friendly language, with different sections for use by:
- health care professionals
- parents and/or caregivers
- schools, community sports organizations/centres
