There are two streams of acquired brain injury (ABI) inpatient rehabilitation programs available in Toronto:
General admission criteria are provided for these two streams. Organizations may have additional criteria. Please note that each application/client need is determined on an individual basis.
Clinical Considerations for Referral to ABI Rehabilitation
The Clinical Considerations for Referral to Inpatient and Outpatient ABI Rehabilitation guideline supports acute care hospitals in determining when to refer patients with brain injury to specialized inpatient ABI rehabilitation, general neurorehabilitation, or outpatient programs. For quick reference, the resource charts highlight key admission and program features, including admitting Rancho level; therapy tolerance; cognitive and communication status; and exclusion criteria.
